Cool tonight, but milder air on the way

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – That late April temperature rollercoaster continues this week, but when do we finally warm up? Find out below…
Tranquil and cool tonight
Mainly clear and cool tonight with a breeze kicking up towards morning causing temperatures to rise into the 40s by morning after we bottom out in the mid to upper 30s during the night.

Milder on Tuesday, but…
The area of high pressure that brings us the sunny weather Monday is moving to our east Monday night. Meanwhile, low pressure is heading east out of the Great Lakes. This will drag a warm front through late Monday night/early Tuesday with a gusty southwest wind setting up. That should warm us back well into the 60s with sun fading behind increasing clouds during the late morning and afternoon on Tuesday, with showers possible towards sunset.

The milder air we feel Tuesday won’t last, because a cold front is expected to swing through central New York to start Wednesday. Showers ahead of and with this front first arrive close to sunset on Tuesday then continue through the first part of Wednesday before we dry out after 1 or 2 pm Wednesday. Rain showers may even end as a little snow, especially across the hills midday Wednesday.

In the wake of the cold front look for a chilly, raw and blustery midweek as highs struggle to get out of the 40s Wednesday.

Frost potential increases late week
There’s a better chance for a widespread frost/freeze Thursday and Friday mornings as you can see below with the overnight lows over the next 7 days.

Sorry planters, but we all know now is not the time to plant any sensitive vegetation. Mid to late May is safer if you can wait.
Spring returns towards weekend
An area of high pressure builds in north of central New York Wednesday night into Thursday setting us up for a great way to end the week. A good deal of sun is expected Thursday, but temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-50s.
That area of high pressure will move just off to our northeast Friday, and we stay dry and sunny. With that in mind, Friday looks like the best day of the week with mostly sunny skies and highs around the mid-60s.
