Call Time creating film professionals of the future in CNY

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Looks like a college house party? That’s because it is… kind of.

Enter Call Time, a career-launching program for those aspiring to break into the film industry.

“The only way to qualify on working on a professional set is having worked on a professional set previously, which is a chicken and egg paradox, and so we knew Call Time could succeed if we could get them on a professional set,” Elias Gwinn, President of CNY Film Professionals, said.

Finding the perfect set requires patience, and this one ended up being in a neighborhood that could look just like yours.

It’s a safe place for fellows to absorb all the advice and information the experts have to offer.

“The experience is amazing, just to see their eyes light up when they find their interests, when they see things, when they ask intelligent questions, when things start clicking in their brain, it’s the most rewarding thing ever,” Molle DeBartolo, Director of Armada and Lead Instructor of Call Time, said.

Learning from the professionals while also becoming the professionals.

“I think the biggest thing I got was being able to see the pace of everything, because when you’re actually on set and everything moving around and interacting and stuff, it’s like its own kind of world, so it’s cool to get a taste of it,” Russell Rohan, a Call Time fellow, explained.

And everyone who is anyone had to start somewhere.

“Call time is the time you’re supposed to show up on set so everyday. Every film crew person gets a call time for the next day, and so if your call time is 8 a.m., you’re supposed to show up at 8 a.m., so we chose that name because that’s where you start and this is where they start,” Gwinn said.

One take at a time.
