Syracuse firefighters respond to fire at vacant home

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, Syracuse firefighters were called to a vacant house fire at 334 Richmond Avenue.

Crews arrived and began to fight a large amount of fire on the home’s front porch. Although the house was known to be vacant, firefighters removed the boards from windows and doors and searched for trapped occupants.

No one was found in the home, SFD said.

As crews tried to fight flames on the inside of the house, the condition worsened as the fire spread to the attic.

Firefighters had to fight the fire from outside the house for a short time before going back in and completely extinguishing the fire, according to SFD. The fire was then declared out after roughly 40 minutes.

The home suffered extensive smoke, water and fire damage. The home next door also suffered minor damage due to the intense heat from the flames, SFD said.

No civilians or fire personnel were injured.
