Student-Athlete of the Week: West Genesee’s Jordan Cain

WEST GENESEE, N.Y. (WSYR) — Jordan Cain is a senior on the West Genesee boys’ basketball team and has grown into a fierce competitor.

“I like winning but I hate losing more than I like winning. So I am just fueled to get better,” said Jordan Cain.

There was always a lot of competition in the Cain house with Jordan and his older brother Christian, who graduated from West Genny last year.

“Just competing against him, you know, in the driveway. Those those battles got heated. So especially then we was on the same team it just made basketball way more fun playing with him like just being on the court with him was extremely fun and we had a lot of success together, which was great,” said Cain.

The Wildcats are coming off a sectional win fueled by Cain’s 24 points and to him it feels good to be a team player.

“It meant a lot to us, especially the last two years we’ve been there and we didn’t get the outcome we was looking for, but this year actually winning it is big for everybody, especially the graduates who came before us, who did who we weren’t able to get it done for. It means a lot especially that my success has also helped lead to the team’s success and that’s the that’s the bigger picture. So I’m just happy we’re all doing well and we have the opportunity to play for a ring, which is which is big,” said Cain.

That humble attitude is something that Jordan has always had.

“Although he has had a lot of success he’s included his teammates. Instead of isolating himself, he just wants to be part of the group and has always, you know, communicated with everybody and shared his own success with everybody else,” said West Genesee head coach Fred Kent.

Congratulations Jordan you are the Byrne Dairy and Deli NewsChannel 9 Student Athlete of the Week!
