Price Chopper to close in the Town of Clay

CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Town of Clay is now down a supermarket.

Price Chopper announced on Thursday, March 14, that its store at 3863 State Route 31 will permanently close in April.

The store will be open now until Saturday, April 19. According to the company, the closure comes after Price Chopper reviewed the store’s current and future operations.

“After thoroughly reviewing the store’s current and future viability, we concluded that closure is the appropriate action to take,” said Blaine Bringhurst, Price Chopper/Market 32 president. “We have a long history in the community and are grateful to all of our teammates and customers who have supported us over the years.”

Out of the 103 employees — 24 full-time and 79 part-time — they all have been offered positions at other Price Chopper stores in the Central New York area.

“It’s never easy to close a store — and we rarely do — but we have an obligation to make business decisions that support the company’s continued health and growth,” Bringhurst added.
