Mom accused of killing 5-year-old appears in court, boyfriend turns himself in

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The boyfriend of Latasha Mott, the mother accused of beating her 5-year-old daughter to death, has turned himself into police.

Corrice Parks is charged with concealment of a human corpse.

He’s accused of hiding the body of 5-year-old Nefertiti Harris, whose remains were found by police Tuesday in an old baseball field behind Salt Springs Road.

The girl was killed by her mother in January, police and prosecutors said.

“He turned himself in this morning to the Syracuse Police Department,” Onondaga County Assistant District Attorney Rob Moran said of Parks. “He showed up with an attorney. He was issued an appearance ticket.”

Earlier this week, prosecutors shared their suspicions if the boyfriend had a role in the girl’s disappearance but he wasn’t cooperating with detectives.

It’s the same as one of the two charges filed against his girlfriend, 29-year-old Latosha Mott, the girl’s mother.

Mott is also charged with manslaughter.

An Onondaga County Grand Jury will deliberate whether upgraded charges are appropriate now that the Onondaga County Medical Examiner has classified the girl’s death as a homicide from blunt force trauma.

Mott appeared in Syracuse City Court on Friday, March 29, where her defense attorney asked for a mental health examination of her before proceeding.

Mott is accused of beating the girl to death in January and eventually dumping her remains.
