Gradual improvement in CNY’s weather Thursday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Wet out there now, but drier changes are on the way! Details are below…

Rain tapering overnight

It has been a wet evening across central New York, but after midnight conditions are slowly going to improve. We expect rain to taper as low pressure and a cold front slide south and east of CNY.

Lows drop into the mid-30s to near 40 with areas of fog.

Drying out to end the week

High pressure slides in from Canada for the last half of the week. This is the center of a dry air mass which will lead to increasing sunshine Thursday after a cloudier start as we again rise into the low to mid-50s.

Friday looks great with more sunshine expected thanks to the above-mentioned area of high-pressure remaining in control as it stays unseasonably mild. Highs to end the week are well into the 50s to possibly 60ׄ° for a few with light winds.

March returns over the weekend

Unfortunately, the nice weather we see to end the week doesn’t last into the weekend as a complex storm system comes our way from the middle of the country.

We initially start the weekend with some wind and rain developing after 1 or 2 pm Saturday. Come late Saturday night into Sunday we cool enough for any rain to change some snow showers at first over the hills and then for the rest of CNY during the day Sunday.

An accumulating snow is looking possible for all of CNY, including Syracuse, with the greatest totals across the hills of CNY between late Saturday night and lunch time Monday. Yes, this would diminish the chances of Syracuse experiencing its least snowy winter on record.

High temperatures over the weekend go from the low 50s Saturday to low 40s to start Sunday However, temperatures Sunday are likely to fall into the low to mid-30s during the daywith gusty winds accentuating the chill. Stay tuned for updates on the chilly/wintry changes.
