Dog rescued from fire in Genoa and returned to owner

GENOA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — At 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, the Genoa Fire Department was sent to a reported fire on Myers Road.

The department says that a sheriff’s deputy in the area was the first on the scene and had confirmed the initial call.

Crews from King Ferry, Long Hill, Scipio, Poplar Ridge, Aurora, Locke, Moravia, Lansing, and Fleming fire departments were called to the scene.

The bulk of the initial fire was put out quickly but live power lines down near the origin of the fire backpedaled efforts to fully extinguish the fire, according to Genoa Fire Department.

After jumping that hurdle, crews heard barking. They were able to go back inside the home to rescue a family puppy.

“King Ferry EMS provided immediate first aid to the scared dog and it was returned to it’s owner,” said Genoa Fire Department.

Southern Cayuga Ambulance, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department, the New York State Police, Cayuga County Emergency Management, Cayuga County Rehab unit, Cayuga County Fire Investigation unit, the Genoa Ladies Auxiliary, and Aurora and Fleming Fire Departments also helped out.
