Deep dive into the plans for the Aquarium in the Inner Harbor

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Designs are done, and bids are coming for the foundation work of the $85 million aquarium being built at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor.

Not everybody in the community is happy about the aquarium. Some think the money could be better spent elsewhere. But happy or not, the aquarium’s presence will be in the Inner Harbor soon.

The county executive shared the renderings for what he calls the “exciting” and “world-class” facility to be.

Foundation work for the aquarium is set to start later this spring, with construction beginning shortly after that.

The aquarium will have exhibits that reflect the history of the area and exhibits dedicated to Onondaga County’s commitment to conservation efforts through an exciting educational experience.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon shared there could be the possibility of expansion in the future.

“It’s a final design. It will be completed. The public tax dollars that are used is going to be $85 million. There may be opportunities to put in more exhibits,” McMahon said.

The aquarium is on schedule to be completed in fall 2025.
