Air Max Day 2024: Nike Debuts Next-Generation Air Max – Shop the New Collection Before It Sells Out

Happy Air Max Day 2024! Nike is celebrating with the Air Max Dn out Tuesday (March 26).
The next-generation Air Max introduces a new, dual-chamber with a “four-tubed Nike Air unit designed for unreal comfort, a smooth stride and max bounce,” according to Nike.
Apart from an updated design, the Air Max Dn is available in a range of new colorways including black/dark smoke grey with anthracite and light crimson, black/cool grey with pure platinum and white, white with racer blue and volt glow with sequoia/black.
The Air Max Dn features a dual pressure air unit comprised of two pressurized chambers, each equipped with two, higher pressure tubes in the back and lower pressure in the front.
The shoe retails for $160 for adults and $130 for kids.
“When I think about keeping an Air Max model fresh, color is actually the first thing I think of,” Juliana Sagat Lead Footwear Designer for Nike Lifestyle said in a press release. “You usually think about the visible Air unit carrying the emotion, but we see color as a holistic tool to bring more emotion to a silhouette. The Dn was designed so that color works precisely and in unison with the Dynamic Air platform, the upper, and the general profile of the shoe. When you can do that, your form of self-expression is limitless.”
Nike Air Max: A Brief History
The Air Max has been around for nearly 40 years ago. Nike debuted the innovative sneaker, designed by Tinker Hatfield, on March 26, 1987.
Paris’ the Centre Pompidou inspired the design for the original Air Max. As the story goes, Nike sent Hatfield to Paris for inspiration, which he found in the Centre Pompidou’s deconstructed design – the building is essentially flipped “inside out” with all of its mechanics featured on the outside. Hatfield channeled that concept into the Air Max’s exposed air bubble.
The Air Max also features groundbreaking technology that circulates air pressure for more comfortable step. The shoe remains one of Nike’s bestsellers along with the Nike Dunk, and retro favorites such as the Air Jordan 3 and Air Force 1.
Nike has been celebrating Air Max Day since 2014, which it usually commemorates with the release of a new design. In addition to the Air Max Dn, Nike also unveiled the Air Max 1 ’86 Premium in a new colorways.
