11-month-old baby poisoned by fentanyl in Syracuse, District Attorney says

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Onondaga County District Attorney says his office is working with police to investigate the fentanyl poisoning of an 11-month old baby in Syracuse.

Syracuse Police said the baby was taken to the hospital, but were not able to add details, including the location of the overdose.

After first being told the baby had died, D.A. Bill Fitzpatrick was provided an update that the 11-month-old was revived with the antidote Narcan.

Fitzpatrick invoked the latest drug overdose while answering questions about the death of 11-year-old Ashton Degonzaque.

Neither police nor prosecutors have confirmed Degonzaque’s cause of death, awaiting toxicology, but the boy’s family suspect a drug overdose. Family members say doctors at the hospital said his body tested positive for cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana.
