Lake snows winding down

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – After a snowy start to Thursday for many, the lake effect snow today will be replaced by milder weather and sun on Friday. Details below…

When does the snow end?

Lake effect snow will continue into Thursday afternoon, heavy at times southeast of Lake Ontario. Watch out for slick roadways and localized reductions in visibility.

An additional 1 to 3 inches of accumulation will be possible in the most persistent snows by this evening before the lake effect snow slides north, weakens, and ultimately comes to an end tonight as high pressure builds in.

Cold and blustery Thursday

Aside from the lake effect snow, the other big story on Thursday is the cold. Gone are temperatures in the 60s and 70s, instead being replaced with highs only in the mid to upper 20s at best.

It will not be as windy as it was Wednesday night, but there could still be some occasional gusts to 30 mph Thursday afternoon. This will lead to areas of blowing and drifting snow and wind chills in the teens. Bundle up if you have to head out, and take it slow on the roads!

A return to spring weather Friday

The return to winter weather only lasts about a day, as temperatures begin a warming trend on Friday.

Along with mostly sunny skies, expect unseasonably warm high temperatures in the upper 40s. By the end of the weekend, highs will even reach back into the 50s.
