#4 Orange Use Third Quarter Run to Down Cardinals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Five players scored three or more goals to lead No. 4 Syracuse to a 23-13 victory at Christian Brothers Academy on Saturday. For the second straight game, the Orange broke open a tight game after halftime as they outscored the Cardinals, 12-3, in the third quarter.
 
Junior Kate Mashewske helped Syracuse get plenty of possessions as she tied the single-game school record with 19 draw controls. She matched the mark of head coach Kayla Treanor. When the Orange got the ball into their offensive zone, grad student Emily Hawryschuk and senior Meaghan Tyrrell did much of the damage as each finished with five goals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

A back-and-forth first half ended with Syracuse (12-3,6-1) taking an 8-7 lead into the locker room at halftime. Tyrrell scored all of her goals in the first half, including her fifth of the day with 1:06 on the clock to give the Orange a one-goal advantage.
 
Louisville (6-9, 1-6) started the scoring after intermission to even the score before Syracuse outscored the Cardinals, 12-2, over the final 13 minutes of the quarter. Hawryschuk scored four goals during the run, while freshman Olivia Adamson had three. The 12 goals are the most for the Orange in a quarter this season and gave ‘Cuse a 20-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Syracuse added three goals in the final 15 minutes to equal their season-high goal total in the 23-13 victory.
 
OF NOTE

Adamson, junior Savannah Sweitzer and sophomore Jenny Markey recorded their first career hat tricks in the win as each finished with three goals and an assist. Tyrrell added two assists for a game-high seven points. With her performance, she climbed to sixth place on Syracuse’s career points list, increasing her career total to 281.
 
Hawryschuk now has 258 career goals, leaving her two goals away from the Syracuse school record of 260 held by Coach Treanor (2013-16). The Victor, N.Y. native has 12 goals in her last two games.
 
Mashewske helped the Orange to a 28-10 advantage in draw controls, while Kimber Hower made eight saves..
