Syracuse to Face Clemson in ACC Tournament Wednesday

Syracuse earned the No. 12 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament and will face No. 13 seed Clemson in the first round Wednesday. Tip-off between the two is set for 1 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. Fans can watch live on regional sports networks (YES Network locally) with Jenn Hildreth and LaChina Robinson on the call. 

Syracuse (11-17, 4-14 ACC) beat Clemson, 86-46, in the lone regular season meeting between the two. It was Syracuse’s largest margin of victory against an ACC team this season. The Tigers (9-20, 3-14 ACC) finished the season losing four-straight games. 

The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to face No. 5 seed Virginia Tech on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the School Day game. 

Syracuse has reached the ACC Tournament Semifinals in each of the last two seasons but will have a tall task ahead of the them this year. The Orange are 9-8 all-time in the ACC Tournament since joining the league before the 2013-14 season. 

All five Syracuse starters average 10-plus points per game with All-ACC Honorable Mention selection Teisha Hyman pacing the team with 15.9 ppg. Hyman leads the Orange in almost every major statistical category including tied for first in rebounds (6.1 rpg), assists (3.4), total steals (70) and steals per game (2.5). Hyman is fifth in the league in scoring and is tied for an ACC best in steals and steals per game with former Syracuse teammate and current Louisville senior Emily Engstler

Syracuse is coming off a 91-75 loss to Boston College on Sunday. The Orange trailed by as many as 36 points but cut the deficit to 11 in the fourth quarter before the Eagles closed the game out to earn their second win over the Orange this season. Hyman and Chrislyn Carr each had 20-point performances scoring 22 and 20 points, respectively. Alaysia Styles was one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
