Orange Test Their Skills at Pro Day

Six former Orange stars laced their cleats up at Ensley one more time on Thursday, in front of scouts numerous NFL teams.
Defensive lineman Cody Roscoe, Kingsley Jonathan, McKinley Williams and Josh Black, offensive lineman Airon Servais and running back Abdul Adams were put through tests and eventually on-field drills by the scouts in the annual Pro Day at ‘Cuse.
The day started in the weight room, where players were weighed and had measurements taken, before the bench press began. Highlights included a trio of defensive linemen benching 225 pounds close to 30-or-more times. Cody Roscoe (33), McKinley Williams (30), and Kingsley Jonathan (29) were included in that group.
Not every player participated in every drill, with some electing to opt out of certain portions for various reasons.
Next came the vertical jump. Adams had the best number to no surprise, leaping 35 inches. Jonathan wasn’t far off in showcasing his explosiveness, clearing 34.5 inches. Even Williams hit the 30-inch plateau on the dot.
The athletes then moved to Ensley Athletic Center for various drills, beginning with the 40-yard dash. Adams (4.58), Jonathan (4.75) and Roscoe (4.80) all felt as though they had solid performances here, while not personal bests.
Adams also had 10’5″ in the broad jump, while Jonathan cleared 10′ even. Roscoe had one of the best short shuttle times, clocking in at 4.32 seconds.
Scouts then ran the players through position-by-position specific drills after. Syracuse had two players selected in last year’s NFL Draft, with Ifeatu Melifonwu and Andre Cisco both going in the third round. Trill Williams joined them in making an active roster as a rookie. The Orange also saw two free agent defensive players (Chandler Jones and Zaire Franklin) ink large new contracts this offseason, adding to the ‘Cuse in the pros pedigree.
