Emma Tyrrell Q&A

Emma Tyrrell has played a large role in Syracuse’s success this season. Learn more about the junior in the below Q&A.
At what age did you start playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in third grade.
What made you pick up the sport?
My sister, Meaghan.I saw her playing and it looked really fun so I thought i would join.
Have the two of you always played on the same teams?
We really didn’t start playing on the same team until high school and my freshman year when we were on varsity together.
Was there ever any doubt that you would go to school where she did or was it a coincidence that you both chose Syracuse?
I think it was more of a coincidence. Obviously, I was looking here because it’s a great school. But it wasn’t a situation where I said I was coming here because she was here. I had other options too but I just really loved it here.
What was it that made you choose to come to Syracuse?
I came on all the visits with Meaghan and I just loved the way the team would interact with her. I loved how the campus looked while we were walking around. I just really loved the environment.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I played soccer and volleyball.
Do you feel either of those sports helped you develop as a lacrosse player?
I think so. I played soccer and lacrosse until I had to choose which one I wanted to pursue. I think soccer helped with my running. Volleyball gave me a sport to relax in and enjoy.
You are a biology and pre-health major. What do you want to do in the future?
My goal is to go to PA school to be a physician assistant.
Was there a player that you looked up to growing up that you wanted to emulate her style of play?
Growing up on Long Island, one of the players I watched was Michelle Rubino. I idolized her. I did my hair like her and everything. I loved watching her play at Stony Brook. We used to always go to her games. I thought she was amazing.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
I used to but I don’t like being superstitious. The only thing is that I eat sour gummy worms before every game.
Do you have a go-to bus snack?
I love the Ritz peanut butter crackers.
What do you like to do during bus trips?
Right now I like to pick a series on Netflx and I’ll try to go through it on one trip.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, which teammate would rescue you?
Meaghan. If I was ever in need, she would figure it out.
Which teammate is the funniest?
For my kind of humor, I would say Hallie Simkins.
Which teammate is the best dresser?
Megan Carney
With seven games left in the regular season, which teammate are you looking forward to watching the rest of the way?
I’m really excited to see Jenny Markey and Olivia Adamson. They are young players and they have to step up into roles this year and I think they have been doing an awesome job.
