Txema Rosique Named VP of A&R at Sony Music U.S. Latin
Txema Rosique, the highly-respected and versatile A&R executive who has worked with a vast range of artists, from Spaniards Alejandro Sanz and Café Quijano to Puerto Ricans Rauw Alejandro and Nío García, has been named vp of A&R for Sony Music U.S. Latin.
Rosique comes from Warner Music Latina, where he was most recently vp of A&R. In his new post, he will sign, develop and cultivate new talent for Sony’s U.S. Latin operation, in addition to working with Sony’s very vast roster of established superstars, which includes Shakira, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony and Romeo Santos. Rosique will continue to be based in Miami, reporting to Sony Music U.S. Latin president Alex Gallardo.
“I’m thrilled to join the team at Sony U.S. Latin, home to such a successful and diverse roster. Latin music is now a global genre in constant evolution, and Sony is spearheading this movement,” said Rosique in a statement.
“Txema is a distinguished A&R executive with a long history and impeccable track record, yet he maintains the same hunger of a young tastemaker executive. To his credit, he has led some of the most important signings in the Latin market,” said Gallardo.
In keeping with Sony’s predilection of hiring executives who’ve had musical careers, Rosique is a percussionist and drummer who played in multiple bands in his native Spain before joining Warner in Spain as a junior A&R executive.
There, he had a successful career, working there with artists like Sanz, Bebe, Carlos Baute and Melendi and eventually becoming artistic director. In Miami, he initially spent two years at publisher Warner Chappell Music as senior director of A&R for U.S. Latin and Latin America. There, he negotiated deals with Duars Entertainment that brought in Rauw Alejandro, and with Flow La Movie for Nío García, among others.
He then went back to the label side in 2020 as vp of A&R at Warner Music Latina, at a time when the company began signing artists in earnest within the U.S. after a lull. Rosqiue was key in securing Warner’s partnership with regional Mexican indie Rancho Humilde, signing an exclusive agreement with the label’s top acts: Natanael Cano, Junior H and Ovi. During the last 12 months, Warner Music Latina has also signed deals with a new generation of urban acts, including Myke Towers and Tiago PZK.
Rosique’s appointment, effective today (Feb. 14), comes just one week after Alejandro Reglero announced his departure as Sony Music Latin’s vp of A&R to go head indie Saban Entertainment’s new Latin division.
It is the latest in a flurry of high profile executive shifts in the Latin music marketplace. Last month, Gaby Martínez announced she was stepping down as managing director of Warner Music Latina after almost two decades on the job. Last year, Alejandro Duque left his post as managing director of Universal Music Latin to become president of Warner Music Latin America, and Horacio Rodríguez left his post as vp of marketing for Universal Music Latin Entertainment to become CEO of WK Records.
In turn, Angel Kaminsky was upped from evp for Latin America and Iberian Peninsula at Universal to president of Universal Music Latino.
