Syracuse Loses to Wake Forest
Teisha Hyman led the Orange with 26 points in Thursday’s 60-67 loss to Wake Forest. Hyman added six rebounds, an assist, and four steals in her seventh 20-point game of the season. This marks Hyman’s 16th straight game in double figures, a streak dating back to Dec. 18, 2021 when she notched 14 against UMBC. The Orange move to 11-16 overall, and 4-13 in the ACC.
Christianna Carr added 15 points in the loss. She recorded six rebounds rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
The Demon Deacons jumped out early, opening the game on an 8-0 run before ‘Cuse scored back-to-back baskets from Chrislyn Carr and Naje Murray to cut the Wake lead to 8-4. Hyman earned the first Orange lead at 16-15 off a layup, but Wake Forest closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 21-16 at the break.
The Orange fell quiet in the second frame, scoring just one basket in the first 5:08 of play. Syracuse would add 10 more points before halftime, but Wake Forest controlled the lead at 39-28. Syracuse shot 38.7 percent from the field, but made just one-of-three free throws in the first half.
Syracuse improved in the second half, but could never get within a 10 point margin of the Deacons. Wake Forest had eight players score, with four recording double digits. The Deacs shot a combined 31-for-63 from the field, good for 49.2 percent.
Five Orange scored, and three of the seven that saw time on the court scored in double figures. Alaysia Styles had 10 points and six rebounds.
Chrislyn Carr added five points. She also recorded five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Murray had four points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The Orange return home to face Boston College on Sunday, Feb. 27, for Senior Day. Tip-off is at 12 p.m. in the Carrier Dome on ACC Network. This will be the last game of the regular season for the Orange before heading to Greensboro, N.C. for the ACC Tournament.
