Orange Celebrate Seniors in Final Home Game


Teisha Hyman led the Orange with her second consecutive 20-point performance with 22 points in the 91-75 loss to Boston College on Sunday afternoon. Hyman also notched seven rebounds, two assists, a block, and a team-high six steals. Chrislyn Carr also broke the 20-point mark on Senior Night. She tallied 20 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Eagles were the first to score with a Maria Gakdeng layup. Boston College went up 5-0 before Alaysia Styles hit a jumper to get the Orange on the board. BC followed with a 10-2 run before Syracuse Acting Head Coach Vonn Read used his first timeout of the half with 5:20 remaining to regroup his squad. Boston College held the lead at the end of the first, 28-14.
BC opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run. The Eagles stretched their lead to 58-24 at the halftime break. Syracuse shot 30.8 percent from behind the arc in the first half making 4-of-13 attempts from three-point range while the Eagles seemed unstoppable shooting 62.1 percent from the field.
The Orange battled to open the third after going down by 36 points in the first two minutes, ‘Cuse went on to outscore the Eagles, 11-10, in the frame. Syracuse trailed at the media timeout, 68-35. Syracuse started to chip away at BC’s lead, cutting it to 28 by the end of the third.
‘Cuse came out rolling in the fourth, going on a 17-5 run to bring the score to 78-62 before Boston College called timeout. Syracuse cut the deficit to 11 with 3:01 remaining, but Boston College closed out the game on an 11-6 run to secure their second win over the Orange this season.
Seven Orange scored in the outing, and four of the seven recorded double-digits. Alaysia Styles was one board shy of a double-double with 11 points, a team-high nine rebounds, an assist, and two steals.
Christianna Carr scored 10 points, added a rebound, two assists, and a steal. To round out the senior class, Naje Murray had six points, three rebounds, and two assists before leaving the game in the third with a foot injury. She returned to the Syracuse bench in the fourth quarter and received a standing ovation from the Orange faithful when her name was announced at the final Syracuse timeout.
Orange reserves Nyah Wilson (four points) Alaina Rice (two points) each recorded a rebound off the bench.
The Orange hit the road to Greensboro, N.C. where they will face Clemson in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The Orange finish the regular season at 11-17 overall and 4-14 in Atlantic Coast Conference.
