Megan Carney Q&A

Megan Carney returned to the lineup in the season opener after suffering a season-ending knee injury last April. Learn more about the senior attacker in this Q&A.
When did you start playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in the third grade. I started playing boys lacrosse because my brother played so I also wanted to play but we didn’t have a girls team. I played boys lacrosse until 5th grade then I played both before just playing girls lacrosse.
Did you play any other sports?
I grew up playing basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming. I played flag football for a little bit.
How did playing those other sports help you in lacrosse?
I think just being a team player, just being a good teammate. Obviously, different sports crossover to lacrosse. They just help your IQ as an athlete, but also just being that team player.
How did it feel to get back on the field in the season opener?
It was so much fun. I was just excited to be back out there. There was a lot of hype around the game, which was nerve-racking at first, but I was just excited to be out there playing with everyone.
You’re a sport management major. What would you like to do in the future?
If it was a dream, probably work for a top brand like Nike, or starting my own brand, which would be cool. Since I run my fitness (social media) account, I like clothes, I like shoes. Something like that would be fun.
What made you choose Syracuse?
Definitely the coaches at the time. Still the same reason with our new coaches. Style of play that they encourage here and the team culture and the family aspect of it.
How did you come to wear #22?
When I was getting recruited here I was in the film room and Gary (Gait) said it very subtly. I knew what the number meant, especially in men’s lacrosse. I knew everything about it. At the time Michelle Tumolo was a coach here and I was dead set on wearing #35. He threw it out there. I think I was in shock and it didn’t hit me right away. And I said no, I’m going wear #35. Later on, I was thinking I can’t do that. Wearing #22 is such an honor.
Do you have a go-to bus movie?
I’m not a big movie person. If it’s on in the bus, I’m probably not paying much attention. I don’t have one that I’m really passionate about.
If you’re not watching a movie, what do you like to do on road trips?
I’m probably looking at shoes or online shopping. Probably scrolling on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok. I’m starting to get into books so I plan reading books this year.
