Jason Aldean Catalog Acquired By Spirit Music Group
Country music superstar Jason Aldean has sold what amounts to a 90% stake in his recorded music catalog to indie publisher Spirit Music Group. Announced on Thursday (Feb. 24), the deal covers Aldean’s discography from his self-titled 2005 debut through his ninth album, 2019’s 9.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to the announcement, the acquisition also includes neighboring rights and SoundExchange royalties, with Aldean retaining an unspecified amount of income interest.
Aldean has 24 Country Airplay No. 1s under his belt buckle, including early classics “Why,” “She’s Country” and “Big Green Tractor,” and tracks like “Downs the Whiskey,” Dirt Road Anthem” and “Girl Like You.” Other top-10 hits over the years have included “Crazy Town,” “Tattoos On This Town” and his 2005 debut single “Hicktown.” Three of Aldean’s albums — all via Broken Bow Records — have topped the Billboard 200 chart, with seven certified platinum or more.
A tenth studio release, the upcoming double set Macon, Georgia, was not part of the Spirit acquisition. To be exact, the Macon half of the album was released in November 2021 and the Georgia side follows in April.
“Jason Aldean has been a consistent hitmaker and trailblazer in country music for nearly two decades,” said Frank Rogers, CEO, Spirit Music Nashville. “His recordings have helped define the sound of modern country music. Spirit Music Group is excited to partner with Jason and we look forward to further championing these important recordings to the world.”
Spirit Music Group chairman Jon Singer added that the company is “committed to being an active partner in safeguarding and building upon the success of these recordings.”
Aldean was represented in the deal by Kent Marcus from Marcus & Colvin LLP. Spirit was represented by Reed Smith.
