Four Orange Earn Preseason All-ACC Honors


GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Syracuse players have been selected to the 2022 Women’s Lacrosse Preseason All-ACC Team in a vote by the league’s head coaches. The group includes graduate student Emily Hawryschuk, seniors Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell and junior Emma Tyrrell. The Orange’s four selections tie for the most in the conference.
Hawryschuk enters the season with 254 career points on 209 goals and 45 assists. She played in only one game in 2021 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Hawryschuk earned first-team IWLCA All-America honors as a junior and was named Inside Lacrosse’s Clutch Player of the Year in the shortened 2020 campaign.
Cooper led the Orange and ranked second in the ACC in ground balls per game (2.29) last season. She recorded career highs in ground balls (48) and tied her career-best with 33 caused turnovers. The defender earned IWLCA All-America First Team honors and was one of 25 candidates for the Tewaaraton Award.
Meaghan Tyrrell was Inside Lacrosse’s Breakthrough Player of the Year last season after she ranked third in the final NCAA statistics in points (112), seventh in goals (68) and 10th in assists. (44). The 112 points tie for third on Syracuse’s single-season record list, while her 68 goals rank eighth. In addition, Tyrrell’s 44 assists are the fourth-most by a member of the Orange.
Emma Tyrrell was a mainstay on Syracuse’s top midfield line last season but moved to attack for the final eight games. In those eight contests, she scored three or more goals five times. Tyrrell ranked fourth on the team in points (58) and goals (42).
The ACC preseason poll mirrors the national rankings as defending national champion Boston College was picked first with 76 points with North Carolina right behind with 74 points. Syracuse was picked third with 63 points.
