Orange Ranked #3 in Preseason Rankings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse will start the season ranked No. 3 according to the ILWomen/IWLCA preseason poll released on Monday, Jan. 31. The Orange were the national runner-up last season for the third time in program history.

Syracuse earned 602 votes in the poll. Defending national champion Boston College received 24 first-place votes and earned the top spot with 648 points. North Carolina earned the other two first-place votes and comes in at No. 2 with 620 points. Northwestern received 569 points, which is good for No. 4.

The Orange will face eight of the preseason top 10 teams, including five on the road, and 11 of the top 25. Syracuse will play the nation’s first top-20 matchup when it hosts No. 13 Stanford in the season opener on Feb. 11 in the Carrier Dome.

The ACC and Big Ten tied for the most teams represented in the top 25 with six squads each. All six of the ACC teams are ranked in the top 11.

The preseason poll is the first ILWomen/IWLCA poll of the year. Inside Lacrosse and the IWLCA announced last week that they would join forces for the 2022 season’s weekly polls.
