Orange Place 7 on All-ACC Academic Team

Seven ‘Cuse players were honored for their success in the classroom as well as on the field, earning All-ACC Academic Team selections.
Kingsley Jonathan, Josh Black, Matthew Bergeron, Dakota Davis, Carlos Vettorello, Anthony Queeley and Courtney Jackson were named to the team, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the previous semester (Fall ’21) and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during a student-athlete’s academic career. Athletic achievements are also taken into account when selecting the team. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
For Bergeron and Jonathan, it was their third time being selected to the team.
Jonathan, the 2020 recipient of the Jim Tatum Award as the conference’s top senior student-athlete. He’s currently enrolled in instructional design, development and evaluation in the School of Education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in information management and technology from the iSchool. One of the team’s top pass rushers, Jonathan had 101 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in his collegiate career. A CoSIDA Academic All-American, Jonathan was also a Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, a Witten Award Semifinalist and a member of the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List this season.
Bergeron earned an All-ACC accolades on the field this year after starting all-12 games at left tackle. A social work major at the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics, he was the only member of the Orange offensive line to start every game at the same position this year. A key component in helping Syracuse post its fifth-best rushing total in program history, the Orange averaged more than four yards per carry off the left tackle spot, the highest in the ACC, according to ESPN Advanced Stats.
Black, a fan favorite defensive lineman, was another All-ACC selection. He started all-12 games this season and competed in 60 games in his time at ‘Cuse – finishing his career with 155 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He holds a bachelor’s degree in health ane exercise science and is pursuing a master’s instructional design, development and evaluation in the School of Education.
Davis also has a bachelor’s degree from the Falk School in health and exercise science and is pursing a master’s in business administration from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. After missing two weeks to start the season, Davis played the last-10 games of the season this year, with starts at both guard spots and right tackle. He and the rest of the offensive line paved the way for All-American running back Sean Tucker to break the program’s single-season rushing record.
Vettorello was also crucial in that offensive line performance, but suffered a season-ending injury that sidelined him for the last four weeks of the season. Tucker was the nation’s leading rusher at the time of his injury. He had starts at both center and right tackle this season and is earning his degree in psychology from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Jackson had a breakout year as a redshirt-freshman wideout this season and was named to Pro Football Focus’ All-ACC Team. He led the team with 37 catches for 289 yards and had three receiving touchdowns. He also added a punt return TD against Boston College. Jackson is majoring in communication and rhetorical studies.
Queeley is enrolled in sport management. The junior wide receiver appeared in all-12 games with 15 catches and 222 yards this season, which was third on the team among receivers.
