The bowl trip marks the Orange’s 27th bowl game, where the program holds a 16-9-1 record. The .635 winning percentage is the sixth-best winning percentage in the FBS among teams with 15-or-more bowl games played.

“We’re thrilled to be invited to play in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl,” said head coach Dino Babers. “I’m excited for our players to travel to New York City and experience all the fantastic events that come with a bowl trip as a reward for what they accomplished this year. I’m also happy that our fans will have another opportunity to see us play in our home state after all their support this season.”

‘Cuse finished the regular season 7-5 and returned to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018. It’s Syracuse’s third trip to the Pinstripe Bowl, winning the inaugural game, 36-34, over Kansas State in 2010 and defeating West Virginia, 28-24, in 2012.

“We are delighted to play in the 2022 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl,” said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “We are honored to represent the ACC and are grateful to the Steinbrenner family, Randy Levine, Mark Holtzman and the entire Yankee organization.  Playing in the media capital of the world and historic Yankee Stadium will be an experience our team and staff will cherish. We look forward to a great game versus the University of Minnesota.”

Syracuse and the Yankees have a long history together. The Dec. 29 matchup at Yankee Stadium will be its 10th game played there, with the Orange boasting a 7-2 record in prior matchups. The history dates back to 1923, when Syracuse defeated Pittsburgh 3-0 in the first-ever football game hosted at Yankee Stadium.

Historically, Syracuse has been successful when playing in pro venues in the greater New York City area, with a 20-15-2 all-time mark across Yankee Stadium (7-2), Shea Stadium (1-0), the Polo Grounds (7-6-2), Giants Stadium (5-3) and MetLife Stadium (0-4).

This year’s Pinstripe Bowl will be a rematch of the 2013 Texas Bowl, where the Orange came away with a 21-17 win. The Orange are 2-3 vs. Minnesota all time. Syracuse won the first meeting between the two teams in 1995, before the Gophers won three straight (1996, 2009, 2012) until SU snapped the streak in the Texas Bowl.

The 2022 iteration of the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl will kickoff at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 and air on ESPN.
