Jimerson Q&A

Learn more about senior Jalyn Jimerson in the this Q&A.

When did you start playing lacrosse and what made you start playing?
I have an older sister, who is four years older than me. I used to follow her around all the time so as soon as she started picking up a stick, I wanted to pick up a stick. I wanted to do everything she did. So I was probably around five or six. It was super fun and I enjoyed playing with my sister, my friends and my parents. I just kept with it and enjoyed it.

What made you decide to come to Syracuse?
I remember coming to a game when I was younger and seeing the Dome for the first time and seeing the players and how they played the game and had fun with it – that was always a big factor on why I wanted to come here. I was a big homebody so it was two-and-a-half hours from home so it was not too far but not too close. It was a place that felt like home.

When you were younger that you looked up to and you wanted pattern your game after?
I numerous people that I have loved the way they play and I would want to play like certain people. I feel that someone I’ve always looked up to, they way they carry themselves with playing, is my dad. He always told us remember who you play for, lacrosse is so much bigger than just a game. But I also admire how Lyle Thompson carried himself and how he went to the roots of why the game was so important.

What is your major and what do you want to do in the future?
I’m a CRS major. I don’t know exactly what I want to do. I know there is so much I want to see and do. I think traveling is big on my list. I’ve been reflecting on it for a while now and I think there is so much more out there than starting a job right away. I want to just go and see the world and experience all these new cultures. If I could connect my job somehow with that, I would be happy doing that.

Are there any particular places you want to see?
I studied abroad in Florence so I love that place so much so I do want to go back to Italy. But I want to see Australia. I want to go to Cape Town in South Africa. Those are the two on my list so far.

As a senior, what do you hope for over the last half of the season?
Obviously, win a national championship is the first thing. Because it’s my last year, to be where my feet are and embrace everything I have because it’s the last time. Don’t take every day I get here for granted and just enjoy the practices, the games and everything that comes with it.

Do you have a current or former teammate that has influenced you?
I have been around a lot of supportive teammates. I’ve grown close to Sierra Cockerille over the years. She has really taught me to be confident and be proud of who I am. She’s always hyping me up. She’s helped me elevate everything.

Which teammate best cook?
Me probably – just kidding! Meg Carney is my roommate and she’s a good cook so I’d have to say her. Although I do see Emma Tyrrell’s food accounts and they look pretty good.

Which teammate is the best dancer?
Sarah Cooper by far. She is epic!

Who is the funniest?
The combination of Evan Johnston and Emily Hawryschuk has me in tears all of the time.

Which teammate are you looking forward to see on the field the rest of the season?
I feel like someone who is really going to come into her own would have to be Maddy Baxter. Maddy is getting confident with each game. Maddy and also Jenny Markey.
