August weather in Syracuse keeps a streak going

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) –  August is over and it continued at least one theme of the other meteorological summer months. Here is a look back.

Another warmer than normal month

It sounds like a broken record, but August was another warmer than normal month is Syracuse. The temperature ended up +1.4 degrees.

After all is said and done, August was the ninth straight month we’ve been warmer than normal.

Although we were warmer than normal, August did not have the pace of heat as the previous two months. June 2024 was +4.6 degrees above normal and July +4.8 degrees above normal.

In addition, we only had two days in August where the temperature reached or exceeded 90 degrees after 11 such days in July.

A wet end to summer

After a drier than normal July, Syracuse made up for it in August with 7.62″ of rain making it the 2nd wettest on record!

Despite all the rain, Syracuse did have 17 days during the month without measurable rainfall. The bulk of the rain was concentrated during just a handful of days. There was 2.05” of rain on August 9th thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Debby an additional 1.0” on the 5th and 2.19” on the final day of the month.

As the month ended, there were no parts of Central New York or, for that matter, any part of the state that was experiencing drought conditions.
