The heat is on for CNY next week

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) Monday was the chilliest June day in 5 years when temperatures barely got above 60°. It may have you wondering… where’s the heat?

After coming off one of the hottest Mays on record, June has been on a little bit a cool streak. That is about to change as spring changes into summer next week.

A large ridge in the jet stream is forecast to build over the middle part of the country and move its way towards the Northeast by the end of the weekend.

Weather data is pointing towards a prolonged stretch of the 80s to perhaps 90-degree temperatures across Central New York beginning Monday, June 17th that could last for the rest of the week.

Could CNY get its first heat wave of 2024?

It’s too soon to make that prediction. An official heat wave is defined as 3 or more consecutive 90°+ days in a row. However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Summer officially begins Thursday, June 20 at 4:51 p.m., and it looks like we’ll really be feeling the summer-like heat!
