Syracuse man found guilty of child porn and sexual exploitation charges

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After a four day trial, Steven Valder, a 34-year-old Syracuse man, was convicted in federal court on all counts of sexual exploitation and child pornography offenses.

Valder was officially convicted on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of committing a felony offense against a minor as a registered sex offender and one count of receipt of child pornography.

Back in 2010, Valder was convicted in Cayuga County Court for forcible sexual conduct with a 14-year-old child and in federal court for the transportation and possession of child pornography.

Roughly one year after being released from prison for those convictions, Valder then sexually abused a 13-year-old boy multiple times in multiple locations around Syracuse and photographed that abuse.

He was also receiving child pornography online through a Russian app on his phone.

Valder’s crimes were discovered after his probation officer found he had an authorized phone where the explicit images were stored.

At his sentencing, scheduled for October 25, Valder faces a mandatory life sentence.
