Members of Jamestown Police were called to the area of Newland and Forest Avenues on the evening of May 14 for a reported fight.

When police arrived, they learned that 18-year-old Marquan D. Carper-Cunningham of Jamestown, NY allegedly got into a verbal argument with someone and had brandished the flare gun to them before shooting them in the face with it, injuring them.

Police said numerous bystanders were nearby when the flare gun was fired, calling it reckless and could’ve caused serious injury to more people given that flares typically burn at up to 2,000 degrees for up to seven minutes.

By the time police arrived, Carper-Cunningham had already fled leading to a warrant being filed for his arrest before locating him the next day.
