WATCH: Driver in Manlius speeds around school bus as a 5-year-old is trying to get off

TOWN OF MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A 5-year-old Fayetteville-Manlius student was on the bus and on her way home at the end of the school day, like any child would be.

But Ring camera footage obtained by NewsChannel 9 captured an incident that could’ve ended horribly.

As the child is going to step off the bus, and into their driveway, a gold/tan Toyota Camry speeds around the bus, along the shoulder, and blows past the house.

The homeowners says that this happened around 3:40 p.m. on Highbridge Road, near Candy Lane, in Manlius.

“My daughter is in kindergarten, she sits in the very first seat. As soon as the bus stops, she is getting off,” explained the father of the 5-year-old.

The driver left tire marks in their lawn from where he sped around the bus.

In the video, you can hear the car clip the mailbox.

Luckily, the bus driver saw the car coming, and acted fast.

“We are very fortunate. The bus driver caught my daughter by the backpack as she was coming down the stairs,” said the father.

In the video, you see the mother throw her hands up to her mouth.

Further, the video shows all other cars on the street stop with plenty and time and distance for the bus to stop, and turn on its lights.

The Manlius Police Department has been actively involved with this case, checking in with the family multiple times, according to the family.

Manlius Police told NewsChannel 9 that the bus had no outside camera. However, after some research, they believe that the car appears to be made between 2009 and 2013, and has a sunroof.
