Overnight closures planned along I-481

DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Central New Yorkers should expect delays in the coming days on I-481 as overnight closures are planned.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is alerting drivers to expect multiple overnight slowdowns and lane and exit closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. along I-481 in DeWitt, North Syracuse and the Town of Manlius, to facilitate the removal of overhead sign structures.
On Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14, I-481 will be reduced to single lanes. That includes a single southbound lane between Exit 5E (Kirkville Road East) and Exit 4 (I-690 West) on Wednesday and a single northbound lane between Exit 2 (Jamesville Road) and Exit 5E (Kirkville Road East) on Thursday.
During the closures, drivers will also encounter periodic rolling slowdown operations lasting approximately 15 minutes.
Exit 3W (DeWitt) on-ramp from Route 5/92 to I-481 northbound and on-ramp from I-690 eastbound to I-481 northbound will also be closed during the rolling slowdown.
The NYSDOT reminds drivers that construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions. Drivers should use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
Fines are doubled for speeding in work zones and per the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
