Eclipse 2024: Two weeks to go!

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Monday, April 8, is in site. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and your eclipse plans are pretty much wrapped up. They should be. Or perhaps do that this week.

Here is a handy checklist of the basics

A couple of notes here.

You have to remember it’s not just the people who live here who will be enjoying the eclipse. People will be coming from outside the area to view this once-in-a-lifetime event. Traffic could be quite congested. Even if you are not going to one of the many events being held that day, plan on the traffic being thick. It will take longer to get where you are going, even if it’s not eclipse-related.

If you are heading to a spot to view the eclipse, especially near Lake Ontario, it’s going to be chilly to cold. Yes, there will be some cooling during the total phase of the eclipse, but you have to remember that Lake Ontario water temperatures this time of year are in the upper 30s to around 40. Even if the forecast is warmer, it can be quite cool near the lakeshore.

Eclipse Minutes

Cell phone circuits are going to be JAMMED. There will be quite a few pictures shared on social media and plenty of calls made leading up to the eclipse. Don’t be surprised if there are drops in your cell phone signal, even if you are not participating in eclipse activities.
