SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Teamsters are demanding one last and “best” offer from Anheuser-Busch as the deadline nears for the labor union to reach an agreement with the brewing giant.
The two sides must reach an agreement by the end of February, or Teamsters workers will go on strike. The Teamsters said Anheuser-Busch “wasted another negotiating session putting forth an unacceptable proposal that threatens to kill Teamster jobs by closing breweries and permanently laying off Teamsters systemwide.”
“They can throw billions of dollars at Super Bowl ads and Wall Street, but they can’t seem to bargain a contract that respects the Teamsters who do the real work inside these breweries,” Teamsters General President, Sean O’Brien said. “They have a harsh reality awaiting them when Anheuser-Busch breweries are empty, and Teamsters are on the streets.”
Teamsters workers voted to authorize a strike back in December in case a deal was not made with Anheuser-Busch by March 1.
The labor union now says a strike appears “unavoidable.”
A strike could affect Central New York, given the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Baldwinsville.
