TYLER, Texas (KETK) — Patrick Mahomes Sr. — the father of Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes — has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Texas.
Jail records from Smith County show Mahomes, 53, was arrested in by police in Tyler, about 100 miles east of Dallas, on Saturday.
Additional details about Mahomes Sr.’s arrest were not immediately available, a police spokesperson told Nexstar’s KETK.
Online records from Smith County show Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to his second driving while intoxicated offense in 2019. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 40 days in the county jail and served that time on weekends from February 2019 to February 2020.
Mahomes Sr.’s bond has been set at $10,000 and he’s being held at the Smith County Jail.
The eldest Mahomes was a pitcher for multiple MLB teams through the late 1990s and early 2000s. That includes stints with the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, the Texas Rangers, the Chicago Cubs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played professionally in Japan.
His son, the two-time NFL MVP, is a week away from starting in his fifth Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Speaking with CNN last week, he said he planned to attend the game. Nexstar’s WDAF has reached out to the Chiefs for comment.
