Manlius Police arrest two women involved in Felony Lane Gang

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Manlius Police have arrested two women involved in the network of smash-and-grab thieves known as the Felony Lane Gang.

35-year-old Marie R. Larosa of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and 56-year-old Debra M. McCarty of Oakland Park, Florida were arrested on Saturday, Feb. 10 after trying to cash fake checks.

According to Manlius Police Sergeant Ken Hatter, Larosa and McCarty cashed a check at the M&T Bank in Fayetteville on Saturday morning and returned later that day, just before the bank closed, to try and cash a second check.

However, this time the teller became suspicious and contacted the account holder who confirmed the ID being used was stolen in a smash-and-grab incident on Feb. 5 in Penn Yan.

The teller then called 911 and stalled the suspects who were subsequently arrested and arraigned once Manlius Police arrived.

Larosa and McCarty were charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree.
  • Conspiracy in the fifth degree.
  • Forgery in the third degree.
  • Grand Larceny in the fourth degree.
  • Identity Theft in the first degree.
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree.

The two women were held on no bail at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Sergeant Hatter said police located other stolen IDs, credit and social security cards as well as some wigs in the vehicle.

Manlius Police also contacted law enforcement agencies in other states who have them as suspects. So far, they have spoken to police agencies in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Texas, Oklahoma and New York who have them listed as suspects.
