Man arrested after climbing the Las Vegas Sphere

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Metropolitan police are investigating reports of a man who climbed to the top of the Sphere Wednesday morning.

“We are responding to reports of an individual scaling a building near the 200 block of Sands Avenue. Please avoid the area due to emergency vehicles responding,” Metro said in a statement.

The man can be seen on the top of the Las Vegas entertainment structure which opened at the end of September in 2023.

Sources have confirmed to Nexstar’s KLAS that the climber is Maison Des Champs, who calls himself the “Pro-life Spider-Man,” and that an alleged accomplice was livestreaming the climb.

In a statement to KLAS, a spokesperson for Sphere Entertainment said they are “grateful to the local authorities for their support in this matter.”

“The individuals involved are currently in the custody of LVMPD,” the statement continued.

Earlier Wednesday morning, Des Champs posted a photo of a banner reading “abortion is murder” on his Instagram and tagged the NFL’s official account.

Las Vegas is set to host Super Bowl LVIII in just a few days.

Des Champs has made similar climbs before, scaling Oklahoma City’s Devon Tower in June 2022 and Chicago’s Accenture Tower in October. In both cases, Des Champs was ultimately taken into custody.

Like those climbs, Des Champs’ climb of the Sphere is intended to serve as an anti-abortion protest.

This is a developing story.
