On Wednesday (Feb. 28), producers for the ongoing off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors announced that Monsoon will be joining the cast as leading lady Audrey. Starting on April 2, the Drag Race star will begin performing in the iconic role alongside High School Musical‘s Corbin Bleu as Seymour, and James Carpinello as Dr. Orin Scrivello.

In a statement released alongside the news, Monsoon shared their utter excitement at getting to play the beloved role. “Little Shop of Horrors was my favorite movie musical as a kid, but Audrey is a role I considered out of the realm of possibility for me,” they said. “To get to play her in this incredible production is terribly exciting … as a drag queen who grew up watching the iconic Ellen Greene performance, I’m thrilled and honored to get to bring Audrey to life in a whole new way that also pays homage to her memorable origins.”

The latest casting comes at an auspicious time in Monsoon’s career. The Drag Race star recently announced their headlining show at New York’s Carnegie Hall for Valentine’s Day 2025, as well as their return to the role of Matron “Mama” Morton in Broadway’s Chicago this summer. Monsoon is also set to play a new villain in an upcoming episode of the long-running British sci-fi series Doctor Who.

To celebrate their casting, Monsoon shared a clip from their stand-up comedy special Red Head Redemption to X, in which they made a reference to the iconic show. “[I’m] not gay as in, like, ‘brunch with the girls,’” they explain. “But queer as in, ‘Feed me, Seymour, feed me now!’”
