Governor Hochul announces 2024 Free Fishing Days

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Would you like to try fishing but don’t have a fishing license? The state of New York is waiving the requirement for a fishing license for six days of freshwater fishing this year.

“The Free Fishing Days program provides a great opportunity for aspiring anglers to try freshwater fishing for the first time or former anglers to reconnect with one of America’s favorite pastimes,” Governor Hochul said. “New York is blessed with an abundance of freshwater lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers, allowing for memorable fishing experiences that increase tourism and benefit the economy.”

The 2024 Free Fishing Days are February 17-18, June 29-30, September 28, and November 11. Anglers are reminded that while the license requirement is waived, all other fishing regulations remain in effect.

The Department of Environmental Conservation offers resources for those learning to fish, including an informational video series and a beginner’s guide to freshwater fishing. Anglers can download the HuntFishNY app for information on stocking, fishing regulations, and boating access.
