ESM honors alumni with Wall of Distinction ceremony

The East Syracuse Minoa Education Foundation honored four people as the 2024 inductees for the ESM Wall of Distinction on Saturday evening, Feb. 3.

A ceremony took place tonight at the Doubletree Hotel at Carrier Circle before the foundation’s annual dinner dance. The Wall of Distinction was created to recognize distinguished alumni, staff and community members of the ESM school district who serve as role models for today’s students.

This year’s inductees were Jason Dardano, Michael Scheibel, Cheryl West and Todd Zion.

“It’s quite an honor. I really owe a lot to ESM, and it’s nice to just be able to come back and be able to tell them how much I appreciate all that they did for me and played a role in the success in my life,” Zion said.

Zion, a 1993 graduate of ESM, has had a successful career in biotechnology and founded the company SmartCells Inc., which has revolutionized diabetes treatment.

Dardano, a 1994 graduate, was also honored for his work as a local firefighter and for his later work with American Medical Response in Las Vegas, where he was with the first ambulance on scene following the 2017 mass shooting.
