Winter Wonderland literacy event held for Syracuse students at MOST

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse City School District students and their parents had the opportunity to participate in some fun literacy games while learning about the school district’s English Language Arts Program on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Office of Family Engagement hosted its Winter Wonderland literacy event at the Museum of Science & Technology in downtown Syracuse.

Pre-K through eighth-grade students and their families were invited and got to participate in word games and learn more about improving children’s literacy at home.

“We need everyone to be a part of our children’s education. We can take what they are doing in the classroom and from those classroom hours and also improve it at home. We need our parents, the community and the teachers as well,” said Amanda Hull, director of media for the SCSD.

The event also featured fun activities for students, including a snowflake ballerina performance, a snowman-making contest, a hot cocoa station and a reading from Mayor Ben Walsh.
