Student-Athlete of the Week: Baldwinsville’s Aaron Fredenberg

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR) — “Wrestling is brutal, and you got to be tough in both aspects, really,” said Aaron Fredenberg.

Aaron Fredenberg has learned a lot from wrestling at Baldwinsville, a sport he discovered through a flyer.

“I kind of got a paper second-grade year, kind of was on my desk. I went home, talked to my dad about it and I was like, ‘I might as well try it out,’ and I stuck with it ever since,” Fredenberg said. “I started in here freshman year. I kind of just got in varsity wrestling. I was just like, ‘I just want to be the best I can,’” said Fredenberg.

The individual responsibility of the sport is something he enjoys the most

“It’s all on you, really. Everything you do, it falls back on you. If you win, it’s all because you work for it, really,” said Fredenberg.

With his hard work, Aaron is close to 40 wins this season. 28 of his 34 have been won by pin. For him, he has gotten more than success out of wrestling.

“I can really just fight through anything. It like made me a lot tougher, really,” said Fredenberg.

As a senior on the team, his role as a leader is crucial to the Bees.

“He’s been something with the boys can look up to. He said it himself that he wanted to be better than his seniors. And we kind of preach that just always leave something behind, leave a legacy behind. You’re here for four years. You have an opportunity to be somebody. Do something special and what is that going to be?” said head coach Tony Burkinshaw.

Leaving this team will be hard.

“It was great, and I’m going to miss it. It’s going to be tough,” said Fredenberg.

But he leaves it with a message for those underclassmen below him.

“Just don’t quit. There’s no reason to. If you put in the work, it’s going to show,” said Fredenberg.
