Otsego County man pleads guilty to sexual exploitation of a child

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A 49-year-old Otsego County man pled guilty on Tuesday, Jan. 16., to sexual exploitation of a child.

Charles Bodie admitted in a change of plea hearing that from December 2021 through October 2022, he exchanged sexually explicit texts with an underage girl, persuading her to send him explicit photos.

Bodie also admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl when she was somewhere between 13 and 15 years old.

The crimes Bodie pled guilty to, carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brenda Sannes will carry out Bodie’s sentencing on May 15. The parties involved have agreed that Bodie should serve between 210 to 262 months in prison, but Judge Sannes is not required to follow that agreement and can deliver a different sentence.

Bodie will also need to serve a term of supervised release of five years to life following his release from prison, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.
