Onondaga County man dead after driving pickup truck through ice in Jefferson County

CLAYTON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Sunday, Jan. 21, around 7:40 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle driving through the ice off Steel Point in the Village of Clayton.

When they arrived, the Sheriff’s Office saw a Ford F-150 pickup truck had driven off the end of Rivershore Drive onto the ice and became mostly submerged after falling through the thinner ice further out in the bay, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

The NYSP Dive Team recovered the driver of the truck, 49-year-old Jeremy Hubbard from Jordan, who was dead when the dive team found him.

The investigation indicates that Hubbard went through the ice around 8:43 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, said the Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is still ongoing.
