Central New York looking to score some sun Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The weekend’s sloppy weather has moved out so we are drying out, but can we get some sun? Details are below…

Pretty quiet this week (and beyond?)

The weather pattern looks to give central New York and the Northeast a break as we end January and head into February.

The jet stream winds look to keep any major storms systems away from us not only the rest of this week but potentially much of next week, too..

Starting tonight it is quiet under a mostly cloudy sky with lows in the 20s.

Can we get any sun?!

We’re sure going to try!

An area of high pressure builds in Tuesday into Wednesday, and should provide CNY with a drier and somewhat brighter midweek. We think Tuesday is our best shot of getting at least some breaks of sun out. There may not be a lot of blue skies around and we won’t be confused for Florida, but it looks like our skies end up brighter than we have seen for a while.

Last Monday morning, January 22nd was the last time CNY saw any appreciable sunshine. That’s more than a week ago. We’d say we are due! Fingers and toes crossed!!

Meanwhile, a weak system passing south of the Northeast Wednesday and so too will any spotty showers, but overall, it looks mainly dry through midweek.

Next best chance of rain showers comes late Thursday afternoon and evening which change to snow showers late Thursday night into Friday.

High temperatures will inch up towards 40 again by Tuesday, and low 40s Wednesday and Thursday which is several degrees above average for the end of January and start of February.
