An Interview with Singer-Songwriter Ella Jane

Check out our exclusive interview with Ella Jane before her performance at Syracuse University’s Block Darty! This interview discusses all things touring, the decision to leave Tufts University, and her career development as a singer-songwriter.

Interview led by Emma Dahmen

21 year-old Ella Roth, known professionally as Ella Jane, emerged into the spotlight with a catchy indie-pop song written for her AP Literature class in high school. Inspired by the classic 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby”, Ella Jane’s “nothing else i could do” has accumulated over 30 million streams on Spotify since its release in July 2020. With much times on her hands during the pandemic, Ella juggled her academics as a freshman at Tufts University with fine-tuning a collection of songs written in high school that eventually formed her debut album: THIS IS NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. She later went on to open for Peter McPoland’s Slow Down Tour, and has recently finished headlining her own Marginalia Tour. Upcoming performances for Ella Jane include The Governor’s Ball Music Festival and Lollapalooza.
