CHARLOTTE — A spot in the ACC Tournament final is on the line when Syracuse takes on North Carolina in the semifinals on Friday, April 28 at approximately 3:30 p.m. in Charlotte.

The No. 2 seed Orange defeated Virginia Tech in Wednesday’s quarterfinal to advance to the semifinals for the seventh time since joining the league in 2014. The third seed Tar Heels beat Clemson in the quarterfinals. North Carolina has won the last six ACC Tournament titles.
 
Friday’s game marks the 19th all-time meeting between Syracuse and North Carolina and the second this season. The Tar Heels hold an 11-7 advantage in the series.
 
The squads met on April 15 in Chapel Hill. Emma Tyrrell had a hat trick in the first quarter, helping Syracuse to a 5-2 lead after the first 15 minutes. The Orange built an 8-4 lead before the Tar Heels scored the final two goals of the first half and the first two of the second to even the score at 8-8.
 
Neither could pull away as the score was tied, 12-12, with 4:10 remaining. Megan Carney scored on an assist from Tyrrell to give Syracuse the lead for good with 3:51 on the clock. Tyrrell added an insurance goal with 1:12 remaining for a 14-12 victory. Tyrrell finished with four goals and six points, while Delaney Sweitzer tied her career high with 15 saves.
 
The winner of Friday’s semifinal advances the ACC Tournament championship game scheduled for Sunday, April 30 at noon.
