Amber Moore Named Director of Women’s Basketball Operations

Amber Moore joins the Syracuse women’s basketball staff as director of basketball operations after holding the same position at the University at Buffalo this past season. Moore was a standout player at Illinois where she was the 13th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

“We are so excited to have Amber join our Syracuse University women’s basketball family,” head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. “She will be our director of basketball operations and will be the first smile you receive when you enter our office. Amber will also be the voice you hear when we ask for your support. She was an incredible student-athlete at Illinois. She played professionally, has coached and was our DOBO last season at UB helping us attain a 25-9 record. I love Amber’s loyalty, commitment, work ethic and solutions as we navigate our daily schedules. Orange Nation, please help me welcome Amber Moore to the Salt City!”

While at Buffalo, Moore was responsible for scheduling team travel and meals, managing the budget and was responsible for organizing Coach Jack’s schedule. Moore also managed the team’s practice players and student managers on a day-to-day basis.

“I am so thrilled to be a part of the Syracuse women’s basketball program,” Moore said. “It is such an honor to be a part of Coach Jack’s full circle moment; to come back to her hometown and alma mater to build the success and continue the traditions here! Basketball is a microcosm of life, and we plan to demonstrate that through our student-athletes on and off the court. I am excited for this journey!”

Moore spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach at Canisius College in Buffalo where her responsibilities included recruiting and evaluating potential student-athletes, administered player development for individual workouts with the team’s post players and assisted in scouting opponents.

She was an assistant coach at Houston Baptist for the 2019-20 season. Her responsibilities at HBU included developing the game schedule, recruiting, organizing player development workouts, assisting with game scouts and other tasks designated by the head coach.

Moore began her coaching career as an assistant at Saint Leo University (NCAA Division II) where she helped organize team travel, fundraising, player development with the post players and guards and assisting with academics and scouting.
Moore scored over 1,000 points in her collegiate career at Illinois and was an All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection in 2010. In 2013, Moore won the Big 10 Sportsmanship Award and was the program’s all-time leader in three-point field goals (295) and career free throw percentage (.840).

Upon graduation, she played two years of professional basketball overseas in Slovakia and Finland.

In 2018, Moore was recognized as a WBCA Thirty Coaches Under 30 recipient, which recognizes some of the nation’s top rising coaches in women’s basketball.

Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in applied health sciences from Illinois in 2013 and graduated with an MBA from Saint Leo in 2019.
